"Defending Your Workplace: Navigating the New Legal Labyrinth of Employment Retaliation"

Have you ever felt that someone was retaliating against you? Ever have an employee come to you and claim that they were being treated differently because they came forward to raise a concern? This engaging session will address these and other critical issues related to employment retaliation, delving into the nuances of retaliation, revealing the latest case law guidance, courtroom insights and real-world case studies that expose the risks organizations face today. In today’s workplace landscape, employment retaliation is a pressing concern that impacts not only organizational culture and trust, but employee retention as well. Focusing on audience engagement through live polling and discussion, this session creates a dynamic environment where participant concerns are addressed in real-time in multiple ways. Attendees will leave armed with practical insights and tools to foster a safe and supportive workplace environment where retaliation is actively addressed.

Louis R. Lessig, Esquire, SHRM-SCP, SPHR is a Partner at the law firm of Brown & Connery, LLP in Westmont, NJ in their labor and employment group. He regularly counsels clients, conducts training sessions and represents clients on litigation matters before federal and state court as well as before administrative agencies. Also known as the Employment Law Translator®, Mr. Lessig speaks across the country and regularly writes articles that appear in publications nationwide including XpertHR. In 2018 he won the Delaware Valley HR Consultant of the Year Award. In 2015, he received the SmartCEO - ESQ Industry Award – recognizing the region’s most trusted advisors. He is a member of the National Speakers Association (NSA) and is a Past President of the Philadelphia chapter. Mr. Lessig is an active volunteer for The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as the immediate past SHRM Northeast MAC Representative as well as a former State Director for Garden State Council – SHRM (NJ), Legislative Director for Garden State Council-SHRM (NJ).
This session is designed to delve deeper into the real-world retaliation considerations in the workplace, the nuances that exist and explore potential ways to address and reduce the costly litigation issues that are created when employees raise fears to management.
