Supervising Others: A Survival Guide for the New Supervisor

    Topic Overview:

Overview: Supervising others can be a tough job. Between managing your own time and projects, helping your team members solve problems and complete tasks, and helping other supervisors, your day can fill up before you know it.

Many of us that are promoted to manager rarely are trained to be one. Mastering effective leadership principles and practices requires an additional set of skills, which when learned can often transform the daunting task of leadership into something profoundly satisfying.

The Supervising Others workshop will help supervisors become more efficient and proficient, with information on delegating, managing time, setting goals and expectations (for themselves and others), providing feedback, resolving conflict, and administering discipline.

    Learning Objectives:

    • High Performance Teams: What are they, how are they formed, and what benefits do they provide? Learn how to gain rapport and cooperation from your team and how to motivate them to success.
    • Change Management: Change is a constant in any leader’s life. Learn to implement changes more smoothly and have those changes better accepted. Understand and manage your reactions to change.
    • Constructive Criticism: When supervisors learn effective ways to handle and deliver feedback, both supervisors and employees can not only learn from their mistakes, they can also benefit from them.
