November Chapter Meeting
Lunch Meeting :
Topic Overview: Effective Communication in an Intercultural Workforce
A diverse workforce brings new ideas, different perspectives, and a wide range of lived experiences. It also brings communication challenges that can slow a team down if they are not understood and addressed. Language and cultural differences can shape how people interpret information, read tone, build trust, and make decisions. When these differences are not acknowledged, messages get misunderstood and expectations stay unspoken.
Cultural intelligence begins with curiosity and the willingness to understand how culture influences everyday communication. Once teams recognize what is happening beneath the surface, they can build practical strategies that support clear communication, reduce misinterpretation, and strengthen collaboration. This includes growing cultural knowledge, preparing for cross cultural interactions, and creating communication practices that help a diverse team feel aligned, respected, and able to do their best work together.
Learning Objectives:
- How to address language and cultural barriers in an effective and appropriate way
- How to recognize unconscious bias and understand its impact on communication
- How to develop a communication strategy that supports culturally competent and confident teamwork
